Since 2006, tuition has risen over 45%. A purported «10% decrease» in tuition slashes OSAP grants and targets students that require the funding to make their education possible. These cuts will negatively impact university funding and schools will be forced to implement cost-cutting measures that will hurt everyone. The very existence of student unions is now at stake. Forcing the university to choose what services are necessary to voluntarily opt into, targeting student press, sexual health centres, LGBTQ organizations, Black, Indigenous, and racialized spaces, university childcare, transit passes, or clubs, all leave students without valuable services and UNDERMINE STUDENTS' AUTONOMY on things we collectively vote for.
Over the past few months, we've seen drastic and alarming changes to labour, health care, transit, sexual education, and disability rights in Ontario. The liberal government spent years privatizing power, working towards for-profit healthcare initiatives, and elevating platforms for far-right mobilization. We refuse to have these destructive policies to erode our communities and compromise our educations and our futures.
The time to resist it now. Join our Fuck Ford Fiesta in Gore Park (King and James) at 12:00 PM on Friday, February 1. At 1:00 PM we take the streets downtown to show Ford we demand equal access to education for all and the right for students to self govern.
