Green Venture presents an informative stormwater management workshop at EcoHouse: permeable driveways. Through the Depave Paradise program Green Venture has installed 8 demonstration sites throughout the City to encourage stormwater management and low impact development techniques to reduce stormwater runoff and encourage others to manage rain where it falls.
In a typical residential neighbourhood, 50% or more of the surfaces are impermeable. These hard surfaces include driveways, sidewalks, roofs, patios and decks. Water can’t pass through these surfaces, but rather, flows over them. This means that over 50% of the rain water that lands on our property is potentially running over an impermeable surface and into a storm drain. These hard surfaces tend to increase stormwater runoff that contributes to flooding and pollution.
One of the ways to keep the advantages and functionality of driveways and pathways but still reduce runoff is by using permeable pavement. This workshop will help you to make sense of the options available so that you can make an informed choice.
Topics covered include:
• What is the difference between the various permeable technologies on the market? What are the pros and cons of each?
• When is using permeable the right (and wrong) option for your project?
• How to choose a contractor? What questions should you ask to make sure they are qualified to do the work?
