Join Unfiltered Facts to view Incredibles 2! This event is for parents and children to learn how the Tobacco Industry uses movies to market their products. Our goal is to seek support for a policy that will stop kids from being exposed to smoking in youth-rated films.

Tickets are first come first serve and must be presented on arrival. Landmark will validate and cover the cost of Jackson Square parking for this event — please bring your parking lot entry ticket to the venue to be stamped.

Movies Influence Kids — Make them Smoke-Free

As parents, we want our kids to grow up happy, healthy and strong. We spend our time passing on values, morals, and teaching right from wrong. Kids learn and model what they see in the home, at school and onscreen in the movies they watch. Movie stars and other characters have an impact on how our kids look, talk and dress, as well as their beliefs and choices about smoking.

Did you know that 86% of movies released in Ontario between 2004 and 2014 that contained tobacco were
rated for kids? This is a concern since it is a well-studied fact by the World Health Organization that the more kids see smoking onscreen in movies, the more likely they are to start. Other content such as, language, nudity, violence, and sexual content all affect movie ratings, but smoking does not.

We’ve got your back! Health policies, like tobacco advertising restrictions in commercials, newspapers and magazines protect kids from being exposed to smoking. Unfortunately, smoking in youth-rated movies still exposes kids and teens to images of smoking. Many across Ontario have united to support an 18A rating for movies with smoking as a way to prevent kids from starting to smoke. Take a moment to visit smokefreemovies.ca to get more information and sign a petition to protect kids from seeing smoking in youth-rated movies.
